Jose Mourinho has responded to Andres Iniesta’s dig that he damaged Spanish football, and once more commented on his fallout with Iker Casillas.
The former Real Madrid Coach was today presented as Chelsea’s returning manager, where among other questions, he was asked of Barcelona midfielder Iniesta’s comments yesterday.
“I damaged Spanish football by breaking Barcelona's dominance,” responded Mourinho, before another journalist asked if he had learned from last season’s difficulties with not playing Casillas.
“All my decisions are based on meritocracy…
“Of course I want good relations with everybody but the most important thing is to have good relations for myself and I think somebody deserves to play, then he has to play.
“If somebody has a big stature and great career, I cannot give him a privilege.”
Mourinho’s 2004 Press conference when unveiled as Chelsea manager the first time around saw him proclaim himself as ‘the Special One’. He was asked if that remained the case nine years on.
“I am the happy one. Calmer? I believe so. I'm in the best moment of my career in terms of knowledge."
“I began management in 2000. I thought I knew everything, but after 13 years you realise you know nothing and have to learn every day.
“My adventures around Europe were fantastic for me, different countries, different cultures, different media. It was fantastic.
“At 50, I think I am still very young as a manager and I think it was like the beginning of a new period. Do I have a different personality? No, but for sure I have a different approach and perspective.”
