NAMA To Launch Full Aerial Radar Coverage in Lagos and Kano

NAMA MD Engr. Nnamdi udoh
At a briefing held at the agency's corporate head office, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos,  the MD of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engineer Mazi Nnamdi Udoh, yesterday explained that the nation's airspace would have full aerial radar coverage from today with stations in Lagos and Kano. He explained that the Lagos station will cover South while the kano station will cover North. Prior to this new development, the nation's airspace operated on procedurial air traffic control.

He said, " If you are taking off from Lagos, you don't have to change your squak to Portharcourt, Abuja or Kano, the controller will transfer you seamlessly to the next radar and maintain the same squak to land."

He further explained that, "squak is the code used by a pilot to communicate with the air traffic controller... Lagos - Abuja flight which currently takes between 50 and 55 minutes will be reduced to about 45 and 50 minutes. And the seamless radar will save the airlines fuel and money as well as reduce carbon emission."
