Apo Massacre: “We are not Boko Haram” – Victims cry out

More facts seem to be hitting the surface as reports now confirmed that the eight people who were shot dead by security operatives in Abuja had no link with the dreaded militant group Boko Haram.

A 20-year-old satchet water hawker has denied being a member of the raging insurgent group, Boko Haram, after he was attacked alongside several co- habitants of an uncompleted building in Abuja.

He cried out in pains; “We are not Boko Haram. “I sell pure water and none of us are Boko Haram. The soldiers just arrived suddenly and started shooting at us.”

Besides, this is contrary to the claims by the spokesperson of the State Security Service, (SSS) Marilyn Ogar after the incident.

Ogar claimed in a recent statement thus: “They led the security team to the uncompleted building where arms were purported to have been buried underground. No sooner had the team commenced digging for the arms than they came under heavy gunfire attack by other Boko Haram elements within the area.”

There are reports that sleeping mats and cooking utensils were the items found belonging to the squatters with the blood stains that “splattered on the walls of the building from the unusual attack on innocent civilians by the Nigerian military claiming to be fighting Boko Haram”.

The SSS had insisted that they killed the suspected civilians after they first came under attack while trying to dig out weapons hidden underground by the insurgents.

Nevertheless, one of the injured inhabitants of the building revealed categorically that the soldiers withdraw from the operation after realizing they were attacking and killing the innocent.

“It was after the attack that some policemen and the SSS came to the scene and even tried to help those of us that survived to get to hospital,” one of the attacked persons disclosed.

He also pointed out that they are day labourers who work in the town and usually stayed in uncompleted buildings for their nights after paying the guards securing  to those buildings.

“This morning we were woken up by a surprising hail of bullets from the uniformed soldiers.

Also, he disclosed that there was an emissary from an army general that had given them a five-day ultimatum to quit the building but that “today’s slaughter was carried out before they could move from the building”.

It would be recalled that the security agents attacked a street located behind Zone E of the Apo Legislative Quarters early Friday morning, killing at least seven and injuring 17 others, after a random spray of bullets.

All the surviving 17 victims have however, blatantly denied membership of the dreaded group when news men interviewed them at the hospital in Abuja.

Washington Navy Yard shooting

At least 12 people have been killed and at least four injured in a shooting at a naval installation in Washington DC.

A gunman was killed at the scene. Police were initially searching for two additional "potential" gunman but one has since been ruled out.

Shots were reported at 08:20 local time (12:20 GMT) on Monday 16th September, and authorities have sealed off a swathe of south-east Washington DC.

President Barack Obama said he mourned "yet another mass shooting".
Police responded to reports of two additional suspects in the shooting at Washington Navy Yard, but have since cleared one of them, a white male in a tan short-sleeve military-style outfit.

A black male, 40-50 years of age and wearing olive kit and seen carrying a long gun, was still being sought.

'Severe' injuries

Washington Police Chief Cathy Lanier said 12 people were deceased. Washington Mayor Vincent Gray said four people were wounded in the shooting.

One police officer was shot in the legs and other police officers were injured in other ways.

At least three people including the shot police officer were brought to Washington Hospital Center by helicopter with "severe" gunshot wounds, said chief medical officer Janis Orlowski.

A female civilian was shot in the head and hand, and another woman was being treated for a shoulder wound, she said.

All three were in critical condition but their chances for survival were "very good", Dr Orlowski said.

Authorities said no motive was yet known for the shooting.

The FBI has taken control of the scene and the investigation, Ms Lanier said.

Security around the US Capitol was bolstered following news of the shooting. The US Senate adjourned for the day earlier than scheduled.

The shooting occurred at a building on the Navy Yard campus that serves as the headquarters for the Naval Sea Systems Command, which engineers, purchases, builds and maintains ships and submarines for the Navy.

Eyewitness Patricia Ward reported hearing at least seven shots from inside a cafeteria on Monday morning.

"It just happened so fast… I just ran," she said.

'Unimaginable violence'

Cmdr Tim Jirus was on the fourth floor of the building when he heard shots, he said.

The Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department has instructed family members to reunite at the car park of a nearby baseball stadium.

President Barack Obama has been briefed on the matter by senior aides and has directed federal agencies to co-ordinate their response and investigation efforts.

At the White House, Mr Obama said he mourned "yet another mass shooting" and sent his thoughts and prayers to the victims.

"These are men and women going to work and doing their job," he said. "They know the dangers of serving abroad, but today they face the unimaginable violence that they wouldn't have expected here at home."

Likely Reasons for the UK the £3,000 Visa Bond Policy

What do Pakistan, Nigeria, India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh have in common? The answer is simple: English-colonized, large Muslim population, poverty-infested, backward, and underdeveloped; and now, the latest entrant to the similarities – £3,000 UK Visa Bond. The latest immigration policy of the UK particularly for these five countries have been met with a very angry reception, if not in other countries, Nigeria and India, at least. The highest echelons of the governments there are not taking this issue lightly, and so are the citizens.

After 300 years of slavery (for Nigeria), 150 years of colonialism, and over 50 years of post-colonial, and imperialist rule, the UK seemed tired of nationals from these countries. After centuries of exhausting the sweat, blood, and labour of these people and their forbearers to build the Queen’s land, the UK policy molders seem to be saying, “thank you for helping develop our country, we need you no more.” This is the most unfair immigration policy to be conceived in recent times.

Come to think of it, is that the only reason the UK is blocking it’s hitherto “friendly commonwealth citizens” from visiting the Queen’s land? I don’t think so. Let’s take a look at the following three reasons and see if they are connected.

Politics & the Next UK Parliamentary Elections
David Cameron and his Conservative Party seem to be playing to the gallery with this new immigration policy. For those who have followed recent elections in the Eurozone, it would not be news that the party with a strong anti-immigration policy appeals more to the electorates; especially in the face of the economic recessions crushing almost all of Europe. In other words, selling this idea to the electorates might just secure the seats for the Conservatives, come next polls.

Tougher immigration rules ensures a more stable social welfare and cultural regime for native Europeans; this is one of the strongest points during election debates in recent times. Therefore, a government in power would do all it can to appease the minds of its citizens with a very unfriendly immigration policy that would keep the ‘aliens’ away – it’s all about the ‘ballots in the box.’

Internal Security & Anti-Terrorism
No doubt, one of the biggest concerns of the ‘super-powers’ today is security of its citizens both home and abroad – but especially at home. Following the successful September 11, 2001 attacks on the twin towers in New York and the July 7, 2005 terrorist attack in London, the UK Home Department has consistently taken very strong measures to curb this menace.

By way of doing so, racial and religious profiling is used as a tool – albeit, morally wrong. Consequently, the five countries listed as pilot projects for the £3,000 UK Visa Bond policy have been profiled wholesale. Pakistan, Nigeria, India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh have combined, hundreds of millions of Muslims in their region who have (and very unfortunately so), been profiled as potential terrorists. This is one of the most racially and religiously biased views mankind has ever witnessed.

So, to curb the inflow of suicide bombers and other such threats to national security, the bar is raised a notch further; no £3,000 deposit, no entry; no entry, no terrorism. Clever, hmm? Or why do you think Ghana, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and South Africa, etc. – all former colonies of the Queen, and very frequent UK visitors and residents are exempted from this immigration regime?

Financial & Economic Benefits
Perhaps the most profitable of all the reasons this policy was introduced is the attendant financial gain the UK is expected to get. Other than the very exorbitant visa application fees imposed on citizens of these countries (one of the highest in the world), the interest-free £3,000 UK Visa Bond is a surefire way of further shoring up the purse – especially for the High Commissions in those countries.

This might sound rather smart for UK citizens who are at a loss as to how the Conservative government aims to raise revenue and sustain its dozens of embassies and High Commissions all over the world even in this hard times. On the other hand, it is not only wicked, it is perfidious that a country that has benefited – and is still benefiting – so much from the many centuries of free labour of peoples from these lands would request an apparent six months interest-free loan to the tune of hundreds of millions of Pounds from beleaguered and poverty ridden Third World citizens.

Where the hell has morality gone, where is our conscience, have we finally thrown out ethos and values out of the window? These questions I expect the House of Lords and House of Commons to ask themselves.

If as many as 180,000 Nigerians apply for UK visa in a year, and a sizeable number (just about same) applies also in these other four countries, soon, the UK would seal this policy in concrete or even increase the fee – I won’t underestimate the length a Conservative government would go to raise funds, history tells us so.

Paradoxically, the UK government is built and runs on immigrants; the number of Nigerian and Indian students in the UK education system alone accounts for a huge chunk of the total immigrants studying in the UK; furthermore, the number of Sri Lankans, Bangladeshis, and Pakistanis in the informal sectors are indicators of a mutually beneficial relationship hitherto enjoyed up till now. Why is the Home Department and the entire Conservative party making it look like a parasitic relationship where one is fleecing on the other? The UK gains as much from these visitors as they do from the Queens land, if not even more.

I think the quicker this £3,000 UK Visa Bond policy is reversed, the better for everyone. Otherwise, the UK should just brace up for lesser patronage for their airlines and High Commissions, and more illegal immigrants, increased shady deals to smuggle people into the country, and many other such vices. A word is enough for the wise; think twice my dear Queen!

Coffin dealer kidnaps self in Enugu, demands N2million ransom from brothers

The police in Enugu State have arrested one Samuel Ani after he allegedly “kidnapped himself” and demanded N2 million ransom from his brothers.

Samuel, DailyPost gathered, saw his own kidnap as the quickest way of getting financial assistance from his brothers, who he labeled “stingy fellows”.

However, it has ended up badly for the coffin dealer, an indigene of Ugwuaji, Enugu South Local Government Area.

It was gathered that he faked kidnap and hid himself for six days at a bush behind his shop situated at Gariki axis of Awkunanaw also in Enugu South, from where he was making telephone calls to his two younger brothers in a very convincing tone that he had been abducted and that the sum of N2 million was required to get him out of the purported kidnappers den, else he would be killed.

The spokesman of the police in Enugu State, Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, who confirmed the incident disclosed that the case was reported to the State Police Command, which mobilized its anti- kidnapping unit.

According to him, “when Samuel intensified his call that the purported kidnappers were on the verge of killing him if his people cannot bring the money, which was later reduced to N1.2m, some amount of money was sent across to the account number provided by the purported kidnappers and a certain girl who went to cash the sum of initial N100, 000 sent into the account in one of the new generation banks located around Agbani road axis on 29/8/13, was tracked and picked by the operatives.

“The girl was identified as one Oluchi Ogbu Faith from Akpugo in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state and a fiancee to Samuel.

“On closer interrogations, Oluchi revealed that the account belonged to her but that she was instructed by Samuel to supply the account number so that his brothers could pay the ransom via the account and that she was to cash it as soon as she received alert of the payment and bring it to him.

“Her revelation led to the arrest of Samuel who disclosed that he was not kidnapped but that he kidnapped himself so that his wealthy younger brothers can pay money for ransom which he will use to sort out his business dealings”.

Samuel also reportedly told the police that without the “faked kidnap”, his brothers couldn’t have given him monetary assistance.

“He also revealed that he is a father of five children but never revealed to Oluchi Faith Ogbu that he is married; instead he promised to marry her.

“Asked whether he used to make huge sells in coffin, he said he made low sells and that he needed to trick the brothers to get out money from them in order to address his immediate challenges which required huge amount of money”, Amaraizu added.
