Champions League draw: Arsenal v Bayern Munich, Manchester City v Barcelona

Arsenal and Manchester city have been handed daunting second round ties in the Champions League after being paired with Bayern Munich and Barcelona respectively in Monday's last 16 draw in Nyon.
City must overcome Lionel Messi and Barcelona to reach the Champions League quarter-finals after being handed a glamour tie against the Spanish champions
And Arsene Wenger’s Premier League leaders will face European champions Bayern for the second successive campaign after being paired with Pep Guardiola’s team, who are currently unbeaten at the top of the Bundesliga.
Arsenal won in the Allianz Arena last season, but a first-leg defeat at the Emirates proved costly as the Germans proceeded to the quarter-finals and an eventual victory against Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley.
City, making their first appearance in the knock-out stages of the competition, will face the La Liga leaders at home in the first-leg at the Etihad Stadium in February before travelling to the Nou Camp for the return leg in March.
Although City beat Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy at the Nou Camp in 2009, the Champions League clash will be the first meaningful meeting between the two clubs.
Both City and Arsenal have discovered the cost of finishing as runners-up in the groups, with Manchester United and Chelsea being handed much less difficult ties after topping their qualification groups.
United, who topped Group A without suffering a defeat, will travel to Athens to face Olympiakos.
United have won all four of the previous meetings between the two clubs, with a 3-2 victory in Greece in October 2002 in their last encounter.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have been handed a reunion with Didier Drogba after being paired with Turkish champions Galatasaray.
Galatasaray, managed by former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, clinched qualification with a late Wesley Sneijder goal in a 1-0 victory against Juventus in Istanbul last week.
Drogba will return to Stamford Bridge for the first time since his penalty shoot-out goal secured the European Cup for Chelsea in Munich in May 2012.

Inspirational

"There once was a farmer who discovered that he had lost his watch in the barn. It was no ordinary watch because it had sentimental value for him.

After searching high and low among the hay for a long while; he gave up and enlisted the help of a group of children playing outside the barn.

He promised them that the person who found it would be rewarded.

Hearing this, the children hurried inside the barn, went through and around the entire stack of hay but still could not find the watch. Just when the farmer was about to give up looking for his watch, a little boy went up to him and asked to be given another chance.

The farmer looked at him and thought, “Why not? After all, this kid looks sincere enough.”

So the farmer sent the little boy back in the barn. After a while the little boy came out with the watch in his hand! The farmer was both happy and surprised and so he asked the boy how he succeeded where the rest had failed.

The boy replied, “I did nothing but sit on the ground and listen. In the silence, I heard the ticking of the watch and just looked for it in that direction.”

"A peaceful mind can think better than a worked up mind. Allow a few minutes of silence to your mind every day, and see, how sharply it helps you to set your life the way you expect it to be!"

Apo Massacre: “We are not Boko Haram” – Victims cry out

More facts seem to be hitting the surface as reports now confirmed that the eight people who were shot dead by security operatives in Abuja had no link with the dreaded militant group Boko Haram.

A 20-year-old satchet water hawker has denied being a member of the raging insurgent group, Boko Haram, after he was attacked alongside several co- habitants of an uncompleted building in Abuja.

He cried out in pains; “We are not Boko Haram. “I sell pure water and none of us are Boko Haram. The soldiers just arrived suddenly and started shooting at us.”

Besides, this is contrary to the claims by the spokesperson of the State Security Service, (SSS) Marilyn Ogar after the incident.

Ogar claimed in a recent statement thus: “They led the security team to the uncompleted building where arms were purported to have been buried underground. No sooner had the team commenced digging for the arms than they came under heavy gunfire attack by other Boko Haram elements within the area.”

There are reports that sleeping mats and cooking utensils were the items found belonging to the squatters with the blood stains that “splattered on the walls of the building from the unusual attack on innocent civilians by the Nigerian military claiming to be fighting Boko Haram”.

The SSS had insisted that they killed the suspected civilians after they first came under attack while trying to dig out weapons hidden underground by the insurgents.

Nevertheless, one of the injured inhabitants of the building revealed categorically that the soldiers withdraw from the operation after realizing they were attacking and killing the innocent.

“It was after the attack that some policemen and the SSS came to the scene and even tried to help those of us that survived to get to hospital,” one of the attacked persons disclosed.

He also pointed out that they are day labourers who work in the town and usually stayed in uncompleted buildings for their nights after paying the guards securing  to those buildings.

“This morning we were woken up by a surprising hail of bullets from the uniformed soldiers.

Also, he disclosed that there was an emissary from an army general that had given them a five-day ultimatum to quit the building but that “today’s slaughter was carried out before they could move from the building”.

It would be recalled that the security agents attacked a street located behind Zone E of the Apo Legislative Quarters early Friday morning, killing at least seven and injuring 17 others, after a random spray of bullets.

All the surviving 17 victims have however, blatantly denied membership of the dreaded group when news men interviewed them at the hospital in Abuja.

Washington Navy Yard shooting

At least 12 people have been killed and at least four injured in a shooting at a naval installation in Washington DC.

A gunman was killed at the scene. Police were initially searching for two additional "potential" gunman but one has since been ruled out.

Shots were reported at 08:20 local time (12:20 GMT) on Monday 16th September, and authorities have sealed off a swathe of south-east Washington DC.

President Barack Obama said he mourned "yet another mass shooting".
Police responded to reports of two additional suspects in the shooting at Washington Navy Yard, but have since cleared one of them, a white male in a tan short-sleeve military-style outfit.

A black male, 40-50 years of age and wearing olive kit and seen carrying a long gun, was still being sought.

'Severe' injuries

Washington Police Chief Cathy Lanier said 12 people were deceased. Washington Mayor Vincent Gray said four people were wounded in the shooting.

One police officer was shot in the legs and other police officers were injured in other ways.

At least three people including the shot police officer were brought to Washington Hospital Center by helicopter with "severe" gunshot wounds, said chief medical officer Janis Orlowski.

A female civilian was shot in the head and hand, and another woman was being treated for a shoulder wound, she said.

All three were in critical condition but their chances for survival were "very good", Dr Orlowski said.

Authorities said no motive was yet known for the shooting.

The FBI has taken control of the scene and the investigation, Ms Lanier said.

Security around the US Capitol was bolstered following news of the shooting. The US Senate adjourned for the day earlier than scheduled.

The shooting occurred at a building on the Navy Yard campus that serves as the headquarters for the Naval Sea Systems Command, which engineers, purchases, builds and maintains ships and submarines for the Navy.

Eyewitness Patricia Ward reported hearing at least seven shots from inside a cafeteria on Monday morning.

"It just happened so fast… I just ran," she said.

'Unimaginable violence'

Cmdr Tim Jirus was on the fourth floor of the building when he heard shots, he said.

"It sounded like a cap gun as opposed to a real gun," he said. "I feel very lucky to be alive. Someone standing there talking to me got shot. I didn't."

The Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department has instructed family members to reunite at the car park of a nearby baseball stadium.

President Barack Obama has been briefed on the matter by senior aides and has directed federal agencies to co-ordinate their response and investigation efforts.

At the White House, Mr Obama said he mourned "yet another mass shooting" and sent his thoughts and prayers to the victims.

"These are men and women going to work and doing their job," he said. "They know the dangers of serving abroad, but today they face the unimaginable violence that they wouldn't have expected here at home."

The Washington Navy Yard is the US Navy's oldest shore installation, first opened in the early 19th Century, according to the Navy.
